The physical security industry is grappling with a significant challenge: a growing shortage of skilled technicians. Against this backdrop, i-PRO Americas made a pivotal announcement at ISC West 2026 (booth #26053), introducing the inaugural recipients of its groundbreaking Security Technician Scholarship Program – a direct response to this critical workforce need.
Nineteen deserving individuals from the Las Vegas area became the first beneficiaries of this comprehensive initiative. Each scholarship provides hands-on technical training valued at approximately $4,000, equipping aspiring technicians with the practical expertise essential for a successful career in physical security installation and support. Candidates were meticulously selected through outreach to technical and vocational programs at the College of Southern Nevada, alongside key industry referrals.
The program’s innovative blended curriculum fused rigorous online coursework with an intensive four-day, hands-on training residency in Las Vegas. Participants delved into the core tenets of modern security, mastering video technology, access control, and IP networking fundamentals. Crucially, they gained invaluable practical experience configuring i-PRO cameras, harnessing cutting-edge AI analytics, and navigating advanced video management software.
Adrian Voorkamp, Director of Learning at i-PRO Americas, articulated the urgent need this program addresses. “The security industry is facing a technician shortage as the workforce retires, and many integrators don’t have the time or resources to train new hires from the ground up,” Voorkamp explained. “This program was created to help bridge that gap. We’re giving new technicians the foundational skills needed before they even step onto a job site, helping integrators shorten onboarding.”
Beyond the intensive training, i-PRO extended a unique invitation to all scholarship recipients: attend ISC West. This unparalleled opportunity allowed them to immerse themselves in the vibrant pulse of the security industry, witnessing groundbreaking innovations firsthand and forging invaluable connections with leading integrators. This holistic approach not only upskills a new generation of technicians but also integrates them directly into the professional community, ensuring a robust future for physical security.
