Verkada Elevates Security Technology Through Immersive AI Experiences at ISC West

At a bustling event like ISC West, where innovation competes for attention, the challenge intensifies. Yet, Verkada, a trailblazing cloud-first company renowned for disrupting conventional practices, once again captivated attendees by placing interactive experiences at the heart of its presence at the Las Vegas trade show.
We delved into this innovative approach in an exclusive interview with Max Shen, Senior Manager, Product Marketing at Verkada.
Asmag.com: For those who couldn’t attend ISC West, what made the “What if the Louvre had Verkada?” experience so special?
Max Shen: Our core question for ISC West this year was provocative: “What if the Louvre had Verkada?” The infamous October 2025 Louvre break-in highlighted a critical need for more sophisticated security solutions, and this real-world event became the cornerstone of our booth design. We crafted an immersive experience that transported visitors straight to Paris. Approaching our booth, attendees were greeted by an ornate stone façade, grand arched windows, and a classic Parisian café, all framing a breathtaking, Louvre-inspired interior. Over the three-day event, this activation drew an astounding 3,000+ visitors.
Once inside, attendees embarked on a truly unique, hands-on journey, transforming into security investigators within our reimagined museum setting.
After checking in via Verkada Guest, participants entered an investigation room, where they were informed of a daring theft: the museum’s crown jewels had vanished, and their expertise was needed. Leveraging Verkada’s unified platform, attendees meticulously pieced together the crime, pulling footage from multiple cameras and reconstructing events using Verkada’s AI-powered search and unified timeline. This demonstration powerfully illustrated how Verkada streamlines investigations, reducing what could be hours of tedious manual scrubbing to mere clicks.
The investigative trail then led participants to the getaway vehicle, where a Verkada security trailer in sentry mode provided a crucial close-up of the license plate, ultimately leading to the recovery of the stolen crown jewels.
To conclude the scenario, attendees utilized their biometric credentials (captured during check-in with Verkada Guest) to unlock the display case and securely return the treasure. They then re-armed the case using Verkada Alarms, ensuring any subsequent theft attempt would trigger an immediate, automated response.
Asmag.com: Verkada has recently unveiled new solutions, such as AI-powered Deterrence. Beyond the Louvre experience, what other innovations awaited visitors at the Verkada booth?
Max Shen: Our journey continued beyond the investigation into our “art gallery” within the museum. As attendees navigated the space, framed digital displays dynamically showcased Verkada’s latest AI capabilities integrated across its unified platform.
Moving through the gallery, visitors could vividly see how teams leverage Verkada’s signals in their daily operations. Our AI-powered activity detection demonstrated how the platform identifies and alerts teams to critical events – from a slip-and-fall in an aged care facility to a potential altercation in a school. Our objective was to highlight how these alerts surface meaningful, high-confidence activities while effectively filtering out irrelevant noise.
These displays offered visitors a compelling overview of the evolution of security technology and Verkada’s pivotal role in this transformative shift. One striking display in our “museum” hallway even featured an NVR memorial, a poignant reminder of the era when video security was tethered to cumbersome, on-premise hardware.
Finally, attendees could enjoy our AI deterrence photobooth – a separate, engaging demo station that offered a fun, Parisian-themed way to experience Verkada’s real-time response capabilities. Guests selected a French prop, posed before a Verkada camera, and received a personalized, AI-generated message. The underlying technology powering this demo is precisely what drives our AI deterrence feature within Verkada Alarms, enabling systems to deter unwanted activity with talk-down messages tailored to the scene’s context.
Our aspiration was for visitors leaving the booth to depart with a clear understanding of how Verkada’s tools are enhancing security and operations, alongside a reinforced appreciation for our platform’s relentless evolution.
Asmag.com: With its seven product lines, Verkada—once a disruptor—now broadly covers the security landscape. Where is your development and product roadmap focused for 2026 and beyond? Are you deepening your reach into specific verticals or pushing the boundaries of security further?
Max Shen: Our primary focus is on how AI can accelerate the entire lifecycle of an investigation, from initial detection through to reporting and review. This ambition underpins the recent innovations showcased in our gallery and reflects our broader commitment to rapid innovation, with 174 new AI and product capabilities released in the past year alone. Features such as AI-powered activity detection, AI-powered deterrence, and our latest investigative tools are all designed to build a more proactive, connected system that empowers teams to act faster and with greater contextual awareness across the entire security lifecycle.
Looking forward, we are also intensely focused on enhancing the platform’s spatial awareness, with an increased emphasis on maps and floorplans. This improvement grounds alerts in physical context, allowing teams to immediately understand where an event is occurring and who needs to respond. It also paves the way for more guided response workflows, moving beyond simple notifications to actively directing teams through an environment in real-time, based on live conditions.
Asmag.com: AI is undoubtedly the most dynamic field of innovation today. How did you ensure ISC West visitors could truly experience the power of the latest AI? And where do you envision AI innovation heading next?
Max Shen: AI was, predictably, one of the most vigorously discussed topics across the show floor, reflecting the rapid industry shift toward more proactive, intelligence-driven security. At ISC West, our goal was to make Verkada AI immediately tangible and impactful.
One key area of focus was AI-powered alerts. These alerts are engineered to surface events of interest in real-time, providing teams with the critical context they need to respond quickly and confidently. Helping customers avoid alert fatigue is a paramount priority, which is why we offer preview features that display anticipated results and estimated daily volumes before an alert goes live.
We also demonstrated how compound alerts further refine signal quality by triggering notifications only when multiple conditions are met. For instance, a manufacturer could be alerted if an employee approaches machinery without required safety gear, or a retailer could be notified if an individual enters a restricted area while carrying a large bag. This sophisticated approach ensures that notifications highlight meaningful, high-confidence activity while filtering out unnecessary events.
Asmag.com: As a cloud-first company, what is your perspective on the growing shift towards greater edge AI capabilities that we are observing today?
Max Shen: At Verkada, we view the shift toward greater edge AI as a fundamental pillar of a truly reliable hybrid-cloud architecture. While the cloud offers the centralized management and remote access that users demand, AI-enabled cameras at the edge provide the crucial “brainpower” needed to process high-bandwidth video data locally without taxing the network.
By performing complex analytics such as person detection and vehicle recognition directly on the camera, we eliminate the need for bulky local servers and ensure that critical security intelligence remains active even if internet connectivity is lost. This innovative approach allows us to deliver the best of both worlds: the immense scalability of the cloud coupled with the real-time, proactive reliability of local hardware.
Furthermore, hybrid-cloud architecture empowers us to push over-the-air updates that continuously enhance a camera’s AI capabilities, ensuring the hardware progressively becomes smarter over time. Ultimately, the future of physical security hinges on this harmonious balance of onboard intelligence and cloud simplicity to provide a seamless, enterprise-grade experience.
Asmag.com: Standing out in an industry where many companies offer similar (and similarly advanced) products is challenging, yet Verkada has once again succeeded. How do you consistently generate innovative ideas for presenting your solutions, such as the Louvre experience?
Max Shen: We are fortunate to operate in a rapidly evolving space where innovation is constant, so standing out isn’t solely about what we build, but profoundly about how we enable people to experience it.
Many of our ideas originate from real customer workflows and the daily challenges they strive to overcome. From there, we meticulously consider how to make these capabilities tangible in a way that authentically reflects their practical application. With an experience like “What if the Louvre had Verkada?” we provide visitors with a unique opportunity to step directly into a real-world scenario and firsthand experience the intuitive power of the platform.
We also continuously build upon what resonates with our audience. Last year’s escape room experience garnered exceptionally positive feedback, which strongly reinforced the value of crafting more interactive, hands-on environments that truly bring the technology to life.
As we reflect on our incredibly successful week at ISC West, our excitement for making spaces intelligent is greater than ever.
