How to Reset the Admin Password on a ZKTeco Device Using CCTV Super Password

Forgot the Admin password on your ZKTeco fingerprint or time attendance device?

In some compatible ZKTeco models, you can use the CCTV Super Password mobile application to generate a temporary Super Password and regain access to the Admin menu.

This method is convenient for technicians because it does not require a computer or a separate Windows password-reset tool. Everything can be done directly from an Android phone or iPhone.

Important: The Super Password method is model- and firmware-dependent. It may not work on every ZKTeco device. Only use this procedure on equipment that you own or are authorized to service.

What You Need

Before starting, prepare the following:

  • A ZKTeco fingerprint, access control, or time attendance device
  • An Android phone or iPhone
  • The CCTV Super Password application
  • Physical access to the ZKTeco device
  • The current time displayed on the ZKTeco device

The original PC-based procedure also relies on the time displayed by the ZKTeco device to generate a temporary password.

Step 1 – Install CCTV Super Password

Install CCTV Super Password on your mobile phone.

The application is available on Google Play and is designed to generate Super Passwords for supported security devices. The current Google Play listing identifies the application as CCTV Super Password, developed by BruceNguyen.

After installing the application, open it.

Step 2 – Check the Time on Your ZKTeco Device

Go to the main screen of the ZKTeco device.

Look at the clock displayed on the screen and write down the exact time.

For example:

14:20

The time is important because the time-based Super Password procedure uses the device’s displayed time to generate the temporary password.

Make sure you use the time shown on the ZKTeco device itself, rather than relying on the time displayed by your phone.

Step 3 – Open CCTV Super Password

Launch CCTV Super Password on your phone.

From the supported device/brand list, select:

ZKTeco

Then select the appropriate ZKTeco password-generation method available in your version of the application.

The available brands and methods may vary between application versions. If the ZKTeco option is not displayed, do not substitute another brand or method.

Step 4 – Enter the Device Time

Enter the time shown on the ZKTeco device into the corresponding field in CCTV Super Password.

For example, if the ZKTeco device shows:

14:20

enter:

1420

The original time-based ZKTeco reset procedure uses this four-digit time value as the input for generating a temporary password.

After entering the time, tap the button used by the application to generate the Super Password.

The application should generate a temporary password if the selected ZKTeco method is compatible with the device.

Step 5 – Open the Admin Menu on the ZKTeco Device

Return to the ZKTeco device.

From the main screen, open the Menu.

If the device requests Admin verification, use the Super Password entry procedure supported by your particular ZKTeco model.

On some ZKTeco devices using the time-based method described by Keysecu, the procedure involves entering:

8888

and then entering the generated temporary password.

The 8888 step is not necessarily applicable to every ZKTeco model. Follow the procedure appropriate for your specific model and firmware.

Step 6 – Enter the Temporary Super Password

Enter the temporary Super Password generated by CCTV Super Password.

If the password is valid, the device should allow you to enter the Admin menu.

You can then access the available administrator settings and manage the Admin account according to the functions provided by your ZKTeco model.

Step 7 – Set a New Admin Password

After successfully accessing the Admin menu, it is recommended to configure a new administrator credential.

Choose a strong password that is:

  • Easy for the authorized administrator to manage
  • Difficult for unauthorized users to guess
  • Not based on common default passwords
  • Stored securely for future maintenance

If the device allows you to remove or replace the previous Admin account, complete the process according to the device’s menu options.

Troubleshooting

The generated password does not work

First, check the time carefully.

For example, if the device displays:

14:20

the input should correspond exactly to that displayed time.

Entering 14:19 or 14:21 may generate a different password.

The ZKTeco option is not available

Make sure you are using a current version of CCTV Super Password.

The application’s supported brands and functions can change between versions. The current Google Play listing shows that the application has received updates, including fixes for errors.

If ZKTeco is not available in your version, do not select an unrelated manufacturer as a replacement.

The method works on one ZKTeco device but not another

This is possible because ZKTeco devices do not necessarily use the same password-reset mechanism.

For example, Keysecu documents a time-based procedure specifically for certain ZKTeco models, including the iFace302/iFace303 and TX628.

Therefore, always verify:

  • Exact model number
  • Firmware version
  • Device interface
  • Available reset method
  • Compatibility with the CCTV Super Password version you are using

The device still refuses the password

If the temporary password does not work after verifying the time and method, stop attempting random passwords.

The device may use a different reset mechanism or may not support this Super Password method.

In that situation, use the official ZKTeco recovery procedure or contact the authorized ZKTeco distributor/service provider.

Why Use a Mobile Phone?

Using CCTV Super Password on a mobile device can be particularly useful for field technicians.

Compared with carrying a laptop and a dedicated Windows password-reset tool, the mobile approach provides several advantages:

  • No laptop required
  • No Windows software required
  • Fast on-site operation
  • Convenient for field technicians
  • Can be performed directly at the device
  • Suitable for quick troubleshooting when the correct method is supported

Important Security Notice

A Super Password should not be treated as a permanent Admin password.

For time-based methods, the generated password is associated with the information displayed by the device at that time.

Most importantly, only use password-reset procedures on ZKTeco equipment that you own or have explicit authorization to administer.

Do not use these procedures to gain unauthorized access to someone else’s biometric, access-control, or attendance system.

Conclusion

For compatible ZKTeco devices, CCTV Super Password can provide a convenient mobile-based way to generate a temporary Super Password without using a PC.

The basic workflow is:

Check the device time → Open CCTV Super Password → Select ZKTeco → Enter the device time → Generate the Super Password → Enter it on the ZKTeco device → Access the Admin menu → Set a new Admin password

Because ZKTeco uses different hardware and firmware platforms, the exact procedure can vary between models. Always verify compatibility before performing the reset.
