The groundbreaking setup combined Milestone’s robust XProtect Corporate video management software with cloud-based AI analytics from Actuate, forging a powerful solution for remote video monitoring.

The operational bottleneck was stark: before the integration of AI-driven analytics, operators were inundated with over 96,000 motion detection alerts daily from thousands of cameras. This flexibility enabled the processing of video streams from geographically dispersed sites using advanced AI models for critical functions such as intrusion detection, loitering detection, weapon detection, and sophisticated crowd monitoring. Only alerts verified by AI were then channeled back into the VMS event workflow, providing operators with genuinely actionable intelligence.

The impact was immediate and profound: a dramatic drop in operator-facing alarms. Arias reported that Genesis witnessed “a 62% reduction in alerts reaching operators, dropping from roughly 96,000 notifications per day to about 37,000 actionable events after implementing AI analytics with Actuate.”

Why Alert Reduction is a Game Changer

Beyond simply fewer notifications, intelligent bandwidth management played a crucial role. The system optimized data usage by primarily relying on JPEG snapshots when motion occurred, intelligently reserving higher-quality streams only for more demanding analytics, such as firearm detection.

This strategic approach significantly reduced system load without necessitating extensive, costly changes at customer sites. Remarkably, the entire deployment was completed without requiring any additional hardware installations on premises.
