Australian Border Security Boosted with Cognitec’s Biometric Tech

Cognitec Partners with Australian Home Affairs to Streamline Border Control with Facial Recognition Technology

Australia’s bustling international airports are about to get a high-tech upgrade. Cognitec, a leading face recognition company, is teaming up with the Department of Home Affairs to roll out 250 advanced camera systems at major international hubs across the country. The goal? To expedite traveler verification and bolster border security through cutting-edge facial biometrics.

With a staggering 41 million international passengers passing through Australian airports annually, the Department of Home Affairs is leveraging facial recognition to electronically confirm the identities of eligible travelers.

Cognitec’s FaceVACS-Entry system is the key to this technological leap. The device cleverly detects a person’s height and automatically adjusts the camera to capture a perfect frontal image. It then uses sophisticated face recognition algorithms to swiftly verify the traveler’s identity.

But Cognitec’s involvement doesn’t stop there. The company is also providing seamless integration software, secure mounting hardware, and comprehensive installation services. Plus, they’ll be on hand with ongoing support and maintenance for all Cognitec hardware and software systems.

“Cognitec is excited to build on our strong relationship with the Department of Home Affairs,” says Terry Hartmann, Cognitec’s Vice President Asia Pacific. “We’re providing technology that quickly captures biometric photos and accurately verifies travelers at the Australian border.” Hartmann added, “This project is a significant step in securing and digitizing the Australian border, ensuring the identities of travelers are trusted and verified.”

FaceVACS-Entry is a proven solution, already in use by governments worldwide for a variety of applications. From access control to border management and entry/exit programs, the system excels at capturing standards-compliant photos and matching live images against stored reference data.
