From Compliance to Innovation: Secutech Reveals How “Made in Taiwan” Leads the Global Security Tech Revolution

Once synonymous with mass production, the ‘Made in Taiwan’ label has dramatically transformed, now representing the pinnacle of technological prowess and stringent compliance standards in global markets. This evolution from budget-friendly goods to cutting-edge innovation signifies a profound shift in perception and capability.

This year’s Secutech, held from April 22-24 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Hall 1, served as a vibrant showcase for this evolution, spotlighting Taiwan’s prowess in video security, access control, IoT, and critical components – all designed with unwavering commitment to compliance. Here’s a glimpse into the innovations that defined the exhibition:

The Specialized ‘Middle Class’: Hi-Sharp, 3S, Lilin, and Geovision

Among the brands vocally championing their local identity, Hi-Sharp stands out. The company has boldly recalibrated its strategy, prioritizing ‘clean supply chains’ to penetrate high-regulation markets like the US and India. While some budget-focused camera models are still assembled in China, Hi-Sharp is ambitiously planning a fully “Made-in-Taiwan” line of AI-ready NVRs, DVRs, and AI boxes, powered by SoCs from Taiwanese peer Novatek, set for release in Q4 2026.

At Secutech, the company unveiled several advanced edge AI-enabled camera models, including the dual-sensor HS-D137WE dome camera and the motorized 2.8~12 mm HS-T058WN camera, meticulously optimized for detection distances ranging from 30 to 50 meters.

“Those models, alongside many of our NVRs and DVRs, such as the 16-channel HS-HX631F, are fully compliant with clean supply channel regulations in the US,” affirmed Christine Lin, Sales Department Manager at Hi-Sharp. She referred specifically to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which bars US federal agencies and their contractors from acquiring video surveillance equipment from certain Chinese manufacturers, citing “national security risks.” Despite its geographical scope, the NDAA has effectively set a global benchmark for ‘clean supply chain’ integrity.

Similarly, 3S has built an unshakeable reputation in its domestic market on the pillars of supply chain transparency and reliability. Once a discreet OEM supplier to foreign brands, 3S has forged an ironclad standing through critical contracts with government agencies and the military, providing robust video security systems for sensitive ground installations such as barracks and airbase perimeters.

“We work with customers who demand the highest standards. Every model destined for their premises must be physically opened, and we must meticulously prove the provenance of each component,” explained Kevin Cheng, Senior Sales Manager at 3S. “Our exacting standards and certifications, particularly NDAA compliance, open numerous doors, both within Taiwan and internationally.”

At Secutech, 3S showcased its comprehensive range of NVRs, DVRs, and cameras—from bispectral/thermal models to high-speed domes, multisensory, and zoom cameras—alongside its proprietary VMS. “Beyond continuously updated AI capabilities, our VMS solutions offer remarkable customization options,” Cheng added. “We collaborate closely with our clients to ensure they receive precisely the solution they need.”

Meanwhile, Lilin and Geovision are both pivoting towards software-driven video security solutions, empowering customers with extensive customization capabilities. Both companies partner with SIs in international markets, focusing on bespoke, project-based deployments.

Lilin presented edge AI cameras at Secutech, engineered for 4K Ultra HD recording and powered by Sony SoCs produced outside China, adhering strictly to NDAA standards. These AI cameras activate the AIDA AI image analysis engine, unlocking advanced features for smart traffic management, from Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) to parking space and vehicle flow counting.

Geovision’s focus at the event was on scalable, on-premise video security systems featuring integrated AI analytics.

“Our VMS unlocks the latest AI features for on-premise architectures running on our edge AI cameras,” stated May Chen, Sales Division Account Executive, Geovision. “The system is scalable for up to 24 devices. For clients seeking to integrate AI features into systems largely reliant on legacy cameras without edge AI, we offer a solution that can enhance up to 16 devices.”

“The solutions we’re presenting here are NDAA-compliant across the entire architecture, encompassing NVRs, DVRs, and cloud management for up to 900 channels connecting on-premise recorders,” Chen elaborated.

Taiwanese Powerhouses: Vivotek and Synology

For Taiwan’s global security behemoths, Synology and VIVOTEK, NDAA compliance isn’t just a standard – it’s an inherent promise. These industry leaders are setting benchmarks for trust and innovation.

Synology, globally renowned for its highly scalable and customizable NAS solutions, is making significant strides into the video security arena.

At Secutech, it unveiled its latest BC800Z camera, boasting advanced edge AI capabilities. This camera can efficiently handle demanding workloads such as ALPR and people counting with near-zero latency, mitigating any risks posed by unstable connections. The rest of its product line performs similar AI functions, leveraging the robust compute power of Synology NAS.

At the VIVOTEK booth, the spotlight was on the latest enhancements to its on-premise VMS and VORTEX cloud platform, including the exciting integration of generative AI. As a comprehensive solutions provider, VIVOTEK aims to seamlessly bridge the gap between on-premise and cloud-based deployments, offering users a unified experience under its “One Platform” banner.

“‘One Platform’ means we can transform on-premise systems into hybrid systems by building a crucial bridge to the cloud. It signifies that from the user’s perspective, on-premise and cloud systems become a single, cohesive entity,” explained Jackie Wu, Department Manager, APAC Sales Department, Vivotek.

VIVOTEK, arguably the largest Taiwanese brand in the video security sector, has masterfully balanced its own branded business with OEM manufacturing for other global brands. For partners focused on cloud AI and software development, VIVOTEK provides essential, NDAA-compliant hardware, reinforcing its pivotal role in the industry.

Beyond Video Security: OEM Manufacturing, Intercoms, and a Brand Revival

Manufacturing hardware of the highest standard for other brands is also a cornerstone of AVTECH’s strategy. While the company has recently expanded its own-brand business with AI-enabled recorders developed using the YOLO8 AI model and powered by Novatek chipsets, it also maintains a substantial OEM-manufacturing footprint.

“NDAA compliance is absolutely central for Western brands who require a supremely reliable manufacturing partner,” affirmed Alejandro Portillo, Product Division Sales Manager at AVTECH.

Gaining a foothold in Western markets is also a point of pride for Taiwanese intercom brand maxsys. While a household name in Taiwan, its international focus extends to distant shores: the US, Europe, and Israel, where the “Made-in-Taiwan” label instills profound trust among customers.

At Secutech, the company demonstrated sophisticated two-way audio intercom systems, featuring up to five door controller panels and seamless IP camera integration, alongside innovative solutions tailored for self-service delivery facilities.

A once prominent name in the video security space was icatch. Historically boasting significant penetration in international markets during the pre-IP camera era, the brand has recently been revived by Taiwan-based Definitely Win Corp. It now offers a full, modern lineup of video security and access control solutions.

Among its showcased highlights at Secutech was icatch’s proprietary VMS, meticulously optimized for diverse people recognition functions. This enables users to create facial recognition-based user groups or leverage AI analytics to generate invaluable business intelligence.

“Our products are NDAA compliant,” stated Arif Elmas, Global Sales Manager, Definitely Win. “That’s an incredibly important differentiator in today’s international market.”
