Intersec 2025: A Deep Dive into the Middle East Security Market with Meian Technology
Intersec, the world’s leading security, safety, and fire protection trade fair, wrapped up its 26th and largest edition at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from January 14th to 16th, 2025. The three-day event drew a record-breaking crowd of 1,200 exhibitors from 61 countries and over 52,000 visitors from more than 140 countries.
This year’s Intersec saw a strong showing from China, with over 300 companies showcasing their latest innovations in security, fire protection, and safety. From AI-powered cameras and solar-powered surveillance to infrared thermal imaging and smart access control, the range of products on display reflected the cutting edge of the industry.
a&s magazine took the opportunity to connect with key players and gain insights into the trends shaping the Middle East security landscape. Through exclusive interviews, a&s explored the exhibition highlights and market strategies of Chinese enterprises, providing valuable information for companies looking to expand into this dynamic region.
One such company is Shenzhen Meian Technology, a pioneer in the Middle East security market. With nearly two decades of experience in the region, Meian has witnessed firsthand the evolution of the industry. We sat down with Meian to discuss their journey, their strategies for success, and their perspective on the evolving demands of the Middle East market.
Q: a&s
A: Shenzhen Meian Technology
Q: When did Meian first enter the Middle East market? How have you established your presence and grown in the region?
A: Meian entered the Middle East market in 2006. The market has transformed significantly since then. Today, the Middle East security market is driven by cost-effectiveness. Product prices are steadily decreasing, while the demands for advanced features are increasing. This trend places greater pressure on manufacturers. The market is becoming increasingly polarized. In the consumer sector, low prices are highly valued, leading to intense competition, particularly through e-commerce platforms. Conversely, project-based applications demand high-performance products with technological upgrades, including the integration of artificial intelligence and advanced facial recognition. This demand for AI is reshaping the traditional security market. Meian caters to both consumer and project-based markets, with the latter representing a larger share of our business.
To succeed in this polarized environment, it’s crucial to identify a unique path. Meian has always focused on combining video and alarm technology. Traditional infrared-microwave detection methods are prone to false alarms, wasting valuable resources. Meian addresses this by activating the camera for visual verification upon alarm triggers, significantly reducing false positives and saving resources.
Q: What new products did Meian showcase at Intersec 2025?
A: At Intersec 2025, we unveiled products with a higher degree of integration. Traditional video and alarm systems operate as separate entities. We’ve integrated them into a single, unified system, offering significant convenience to our customers. For example, wiring is simplified. A single network cable can now handle video, power, and all sensors, eliminating the complexities of traditional wiring and reducing costs. This is particularly evident in our smart home product series, which garnered significant attention from attendees this year.
With over 20 years of experience in the Middle East security market, Meian has a deep understanding of product deployment. This year, artificial intelligence is a major talking point. Integrating AI into our products effectively tackles the issue of false alarms and enhances product performance through various algorithms. This allows us to address challenges like item omission, fire detection, and parking management. A single camera can now solve multiple problems, creating a comprehensive system at a lower cost and minimizing ongoing maintenance.
Q: Price, hardware, service, and customization are all key competitive factors in both domestic and international security markets. How does Meian approach this competitive landscape?
A: In this intensely competitive environment, Meian prioritizes “user customization.” We offer over 5,000 different product customization models, tailoring solutions to meet the specific needs of each customer. We don’t sell “standard products.” Personalized customization allows us to effectively avoid cutthroat competition and price wars. Meian is a pioneer in providing customized services in the Middle East market.
To support large-scale customization, we organize our teams by product category. We’ve focused on sensor development and customization for two decades. We have dedicated R&D teams for hardware, such as control panels and cameras, and software, including apps and platforms. This division of labor ensures expertise and skill development in each area. In specific projects, we can rapidly design software and hardware based on customer requirements. For less defined aspects, like product appearance, we provide suggestions based on customer input. Overall, our clear division of labor allows us to be largely self-sufficient across the industrial chain, supporting large-scale customization and personalized customer needs.
Q: What is the source of Meian’s competitive advantage?
A: Our competitiveness stems from the “diverse, efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective” nature of our products. We offer a wide variety of products with rapid delivery, superior quality, and low operating and maintenance costs. On top of that, we meet users’ unique needs and only produce products that “customers need.” This requires strong R&D capabilities. There are likely no products in the market that are exactly like Meian’s. That is our strength. By adopting flexible market strategies, we adapt to changing conditions while maintaining our core values and thriving in diverse markets.
Intersec Shanghai 2025 is coming
Driven by innovation trends, the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have opened up promising prospects for security, smart buildings, fire safety and transportation logistics. To capitalise on the opportunities presented by this technological advancement, Messe Frankfurt and Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai (CCPIT) will jointly host Intersec Shanghai, a new trade fair for security, fire protection and safety, which will be held for the first time from 13 to 15 May 2025, at the National Exhibition and Convention Center, Shanghai. Intersec Shanghai will connect the Chinese market with international security, fire protection and safety solutions.
