Luminite is excited to announce that the Alertex speaker is now available in an anti-ligature enclosure, responding to expressed interest from various children’s care homes.
Alertex is a suite of wireless speakers, call points, and sounder/beacons engineered to deliver clear and immediate alerts should a premises lockdown be required.
Why is this important?
With Martyn’s Law now a reality in the UK, public venues capable of holding 200 or more individuals will be required to demonstrate their ability to issue clear and unambiguous alerts for lockdown, evacuation, and invacuation in the face of a terrorist attack. This encompasses a broad spectrum of locations, including schools, shopping centers, hospitals, museums, leisure centers, hotels, and theaters – potentially affecting up to 280,000 venues by 2027.
Children’s homes fall under this legislation, and given the necessity for anti-ligature measures in these environments, as well as in some schools, we’ve developed a solution that allows the Alertex range to serve as an effective lockdown system.
What is anti-ligature?
The term ‘ligature’ refers to an act of self-harm that involves using a cord, rope, or piece of clothing to create a point of constriction around the neck or other part of the body. Anti-ligature measures are designed to remove or minimize potential attachment points for such ligatures. Because children’s homes and some schools often provide care for children facing significant emotional and behavioral challenges, all equipment must adhere to strict safety standards. This includes everything from door handles to window fittings and shower heads.
The Alertex speakers offer wireless functionality and versatility, extending their utility beyond just lockdown situations. The IP Bridge enables users to select from a range of pre-recorded messages – with a capacity of up to 15MB, which translates to approximately 10 messages of 20 seconds each. This feature can be used to broadcast calming music or safety instructions in multiple languages.
